Fruit of the Month Club VI
This month’s fruit of the month is...well...I have no idea what it is. Looking for interesting fruits we’d never tried before, we picked this up at the grocery store recently, but later we realized there was no name on the label.
It seems to be among those fruits and vegetables that exist for hydration, more than flavor, although it did taste a little sweet. Its appearance and texture are a strange combination, perhaps something like a red pepper or an apple. It’s pretty refreshing when served cold on a hot day, though.
But can anyone tell us what it is?

It's called a rose apple. The ones here in Singapore are mostly from Thailand and not as sweet as the ones you can get in Taiwan.
If I am not mistaken, in Taiwan it's called lian-wu in Mandarin. Sorry I haven't e-mailed you and Joey for a long time. I have a very hectic teaching schedule this semester; will try to e-mail you soon. We love you!

In Malay it's called Jambu, and in Hokkien as well, they stole the word from the Malay. If you get it in the right season they can be very sweet and crunchy. I love them they're really light and good on the waist...
This fruit makes a terrific filling for pies & turnovers; spice as you would apple for pie (cinnamon, sugar, etc)
